Let's Talk About Taking A Knee

INTRODUCTION:

Although this is the second Monday of the month and I usually produce a video blog post, my video blog posts on the second Monday of the month will resume next month.

I am sure you are curious about the topic of this blog post, and you should be. Taking a knee is now GREATLY supported. However, when live sports resume, the controversy will begin, and actually, it has already started. So let's get it out in the open now. The following are my opinions, and I have already read various opinions from various sources regarding this. Can we all agree that the statement; "There is a time and place for everything," is true? I'm sure we can. Before I begin, let me make one thing perfectly clear so there are no misunderstandings. I would love to read your opinions, so please do not fear. Leave a comment if you would like. Intelligent people respect the opinions of others because everyone has a right to them.

RACIAL BIAS, PROFILING, OR ANY OTHER FORM OF ACTIONS AGAINST ANYONE OF ANY RACE, COLOR, GENDER, OR CREED, IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ANY LEVEL. I WILL TAKE A KNEE TO SHOW SUPPORT WITH ANYONE TO DISPLAY MY SUPPORT AND OPPOSITION TO THESE ACTIONS. THE EVENTS AND TRAGEDIES MANY PEOPLE OF COLOR HAVE ENDURED IS UNACCEPTABLE. IN THE CASE OF MR. FLOYD, MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH HIS FAMILY, AND JUSTICE WILL BE DONE.

The entire world needs to wake up and productively implement the proper measures to put a stop to this terrible practice. However, a tragedy such as what the world viewed, should never be an excuse to cause additional tragedies, destruction, or harm to others. Productive and peaceful protests will always reap positive results. Destruction and violence against the innocent, will never solve this problem. The sad part is, these actions are caused by organized groups that come in and incite people, and cause these problems. People need to police themselves. People know right from wrong. Only we as a people, will be able to stop these individuals from destroying our communities. Yes people, like it or not, whether you want to hear it or not, we all have to share in this responsibility. I do not think that subject needs further beating.

CONTROVERSY:

So what's the big deal about taking a knee? The issue is NOT about taking a knee. That is a show of support against a cause or purpose. The issue is when to display it? When it is appropriate, respectful, or not. Live sports will be beginning shortly. I believe everyone would agree, that taking a knee as a display of support is completely acceptable. I thought it was wonderful sign of unity to see protestors, national guard troops, police officers, government officials, and others, taking a knee together to display unity and support. That is a perfect example of the right time and place. You see, when any action is taken in a forum dealing with a specific agenda, it makes it justified and correct. However, this occurs against the background of something different, it sends mixed messages. With mixed messages, comes differences of opinions and misconceptions. It is a snowball effect, and as we all know, when the snowball is rolling downhill, it never gets smaller.

Let me raise a question? Is taking a knee during the playing of the national anthem the right time and place? Reports are now saying that Colon Kaepernick was not wrong when he took a knee during the playing of our national anthem, because now, everyone is doing it. Honesty, I do not agree. Sorry Mr. Kaepernick, in my opinion, you are not exonerated.

WHY?

The playing of our countries national anthem is to show respect for our flag, our country, our freedom, those who serve her, and those who died for her to protect our freedom, amongst other things. Our country, our heroes, and our flag, deserve the respect of people standing, not taking a knee in protest of anything. The taking of a knee symbolizes support for wrong doings, kneeling represents our unity and support for change. Is that the message we want to send when we should be taking those few minutes to respect our county and flag? Hopefully you can see how a mixed message could be sent, and how different people can perceive the gesture as being insulting. It's simply not the right time and place, and the venue is different. Remember what I stated earlier, when people send mix messages, it forms opinions, and the inital meaning gets lost.

SOLUTION:

I stated earlier I support taking a knee as a show of unity and support. I would take a knee with anyone, providing, it was the right time and place. Yes, ladies and gentleman, the controversy on this has already started. The proper way to achieve this and NOT send mixed messages is, and the end of the playing of our National Anthem, an announcer can ask those who wish to tale a knee in support of unity and equality, let's take a moment of silence. That would be the time to take a knee. No mix messages are being sent, and the ten of fifteen seconds is not going to hurt anyone, and the CORRECT message is sent.

I often think and ask myself, why does a country and society that is struggling so hard for unity continue to do things that cause people not to be united? Don't we have enough to deal with in the present political environment along with a pandemic that we still do not know, but will probably, show its evil head again? This is NOT rocket science and non of need a college degree to figure out common sense.

IN CLOSING:

I stated earlier, these are my opinions, and I am interested in hearing yours. I also believe this is a topic that WILL escalate once live spots begin. It would be greatly appreciated if people would be kind enough to share the link to this post on their social media pages. Who knows, maybe we can avoid the issue and not have to hear on the news seven days a week after a game is played. Be safe, and be well.
