INTRODUCTION:

Greetings. We all do things for different reasons. Do you ever wonder if your actions are for the right reason? I chose this topic because I'm on social media like you. I read all the comments and opinions. Everyone has the right to their views, and rightfully so. I respect that. However, I do not respect the comments or posts I read where a person hopes for the failure of another.

Ask yourself this. Would you want others to hope for your failure? In my video promo leading to this post, I mentioned a quote from Lyndon B. Johnson. It read, "If one morning I walked on the top of the water across the Potomac River, the headline that afternoon would read: President Can't Swim." Early in the promo, I asked a question. "Can you figure out the moral?"

Regarding the Presidency, no matter what a President does, regardless of who the President is at the time, someone will have a negative comment to make. Negativity is the breeding ground for negative things to occur. Positivity is the breeding ground for positive things to happen. Along the way, any path can get twisted and turned around due to unforeseen events. We call that life. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." However, Allen Saunders penned the line in 1957. The quote emphasizes the unpredictable nature of life and how plans can often fall by the wayside due to unforeseen events—something we have all experienced. Let's take a deeper look.

THE PRESIDENCY:

We can all agree that not everyone votes for one candidate for President. We can also agree that most people, whether they vote for someone or not, will follow their President for the most part. They have little choice because they will hear about everything the President does or does not do on the news. Unfortunately, depending on the network you watch, the information may or may not be accurate, or, if you follow it on social media, in most cases, it is not accurate, but an opinion. Therefore, getting the right story, at best, is difficult. Maybe this is why President Trump speaks directly to the people through news interviews. There is no better reliable source than the person who makes these decisions speaking about them.

However, this is often the start of the problem because those who do not like or did not vote for the President will typically not watch and hear what they have to say. They now must rely on opinions, misinformation, and biased comments. Do you believe that is fair? How would you like it if all your words were twisted and people did not listen to you, only what others interpreted about what you said? Many have experienced this differently; I am convinced they were probably unhappy.

The emotional side of human nature is tricky. Some listen and form an opinion based on the facts—that is my type of person. However, most people allow their emotions to dictate what they will believe or not believe. Those are dangerous waters to swim in. However, that is part of life—a part that anyone who does this can change. When this type of evaluation happens to us, it usually involves a few people. However, for a president, it involves millions. Millions of different opinions and statements others make for the wrong reasons. This is why I ask you. Are you following the Trump Presidency for the right reasons?

FAILURE:

No one wants to fail, and no one wants to be viewed as a failure. We all want to succeed, but we should also want others to succeed. Wishing failure upon another is not good and does not speak well of a person's character. When it comes to our elected officials, we should want to support them and want them to succeed. That does not mean you must agree with every decision they make. Do not confuse the two. You may not be happy with every choice your children make, but you still want them to succeed. Why should the Presidency be any different?

WHY DO PEOPLE FOLLOW A PRESIDENCY?:

A nation's Presidency is often seen as a focal point of governance and leadership, embodying its citizens' aspirations, hopes, and concerns. Understanding why people follow a presidency can be complex and influenced by social, political, psychological, and cultural factors.

One of the most compelling reasons individuals follow a president is the leader's charisma. Charismatic leaders often exhibit a unique ability to connect with the population, inspire trust, and evoke strong emotions. This magnetism can lead to unwavering support, allowing a president to rally people around shared goals and ideals.

Effective communication, decisiveness, and the ability to present a clear vision are critical traits that draw followers. People are more likely to support a president who demonstrates confidence and competence, especially during challenging times. Political ideology plays a significant role in shaping public support for a presidency. People are more inclined to follow a president whose policies and values resonate with their own beliefs, whether they identify as liberal, conservative, or having moderate political views.

In many democratic systems, party affiliation significantly influences presidential support. Individuals often feel a sense of loyalty to their political party, leading them to support candidates irrespective of their individual policies or personalities. This allegiance can create a strong sense of community among supporters.

Economic issues often dominate public discourse and influence political opinions. People will follow a president if they believe their leadership results in economic prosperity, job creation, and a stable financial environment. Conversely, economic downturns can lead to dissatisfaction and a decline in support. Specific policies aimed at economic improvement, such as tax cuts, job programs, or social welfare initiatives, can garner significant support. People typically pay close attention to how a president's decisions affect their economic well-being, which can either strengthen or weaken their allegiance.

Many people follow presidencies that actively advocate for social issues that resonate with them, such as civil rights, healthcare reform, environmental policy, and education. A president who champions progressive reforms can rally support from various demographics, particularly younger voters who prioritize these issues. Often, societal movements and opposition to a president can galvanize support. For instance, a president perceived as under attack by opposition parties or the media can unite followers and strengthen their resolve to support the administration.

The historical context in which a president serves can influence why individuals follow their leadership. For example, national crises, wars, or societal shifts can create an environment where a president's leadership is valued and necessary. The historical legacy of previous presidents also plays a role. Presidents, who are seen as pivotal figures in shaping national identity or addressing critical challenges, may attract more followers. This can cultivate reverence for the office and the person holding it, transcending their individual actions.

The way the media portrays a president can significantly shape public perception. Positive coverage can enhance a president's image and influence citizens to follow their lead, while negative portrayals can lead to skepticism and dissent. In today's digital age, social media platforms allow presidents to communicate directly with the people, bypassing traditional media filters. Engaging through these platforms can foster a sense of community and immediacy, drawing followers who feel personally connected to the administration.

People often seek reassurance and stability in times of uncertainty and instability. A president who provides clear guidance and certainty can attract followers looking for leadership amid chaos. People have an inherent tendency to align with groups and leaders who reflect their identity, whether racial, cultural, or socio-economic. The desire to belong to a larger community can encourage individuals to follow a president who embodies their identity or aspirations.

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

Do you fall into the trap that others do? Why do you follow the Presidency? Only you know why you take the position on issues that you do. Only you know if you follow Trump for the right reasons. The right reasons are complex and involve various factors. Being an informed citizen should be one of those reasons. One of the most compelling reasons to follow a presidency is cultivating an informed understanding of national policy decisions. Policies enacted at the presidential level can have far-reaching implications, affecting everything from healthcare and education to foreign relations and climate change. By staying informed about the current administration’s initiatives and proposals, citizens can better understand how these decisions impact their lives and the lives of others.

Following a presidency allows individuals to engage meaningfully in political discourse. Access to information about presidential actions—through speeches, press releases, and news articles—enables citizens to participate in discussions with family, friends, and communities. This engagement fosters a healthier democratic process, as well-informed citizens influence public opinion and contribute to electoral outcomes.

One of the cornerstones of democracy is the principle of accountability. Following a presidency enables citizens to hold elected officials responsible for their actions. By monitoring a president’s decisions, citizens can advocate for transparency, demanding explanations and justifications for controversial policies or actions that may not align with democratic values or the public interest. Engagement with the Presidency encourages active participation in the political landscape. It empowers citizens to express their opinions, advocate for change, and mobilize for action when necessary. Whether through peaceful protests, letters to representatives, or participation in local government, following a president equips citizens with the information needed to voice their concerns effectively.

A presidency often reflects a nation's broader cultural and societal values. By following a president's leadership style, citizens can gain insight into their society's underlying values. This understanding is vital, as the tone set by the President can shape public opinion, influence social norms, and establish a model for future leaders.

Presidential policies often encompass a range of social programs and initiatives to address pressing national issues such as poverty, education, and healthcare. By closely following these initiatives, individuals can better evaluate their effectiveness and advocate for necessary changes or improvements. Engaging with the Presidency allows identifying successes and failures within these programs, fostering dialogue about potential solutions.

Presidencies do not operate in a vacuum; they exist within a global context where foreign relations and international policy can profoundly impact national security and economic stability. Following a presidency allows citizens to understand how international relationships are managed, how trade agreements are negotiated, and how foreign conflicts may affect their country. This knowledge helps individuals to appreciate the complexities of global politics and the interconnectedness of nations.

In an increasingly interconnected world, global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, and pandemics require coordinated national response efforts. By staying engaged with a presidency, citizens can be informed about how their country addresses these issues, allowing for more robust conversations around collective action and responsibility.

Following a presidency serves as an essential modeling tool for younger generations. Educating children and youth about political systems and the importance of monitoring leadership fosters a culture of engagement, by demonstrating how to critically analyze and discuss a president's actions, parents and educators can cultivate informed future citizens who recognize their role in shaping democracy. Active engagement with presidential actions can inspire individuals to advocate for issues they care about. Awareness of policies that resonate on personal or community levels can lead to grassroots activism, fostering a sense of purpose and connection to larger societal challenges. When individuals see the direct impact of political decisions, they are more likely to get involved and advocate for necessary changes.

IN CLOSING:

Who the President is should determine if, how, or why you will follow their Presidency. The reasons why people follow a presidency are diverse and often intertwined. From personal beliefs and socio-economic contexts to media influence and psychological factors, the allure of presidential leadership is complex. Understanding these motivations is crucial for grasping political support and governance dynamics. Following a presidency is about more than just observing the actions of one individual; it’s about participating in a larger democratic process that affects every aspect of society. The right reasons to follow a presidency include fostering informed citizenship, holding leaders accountable, understanding the societal impact of leadership, recognizing global contexts, and shaping future generations. In doing so, individuals enhance their understanding of national governance and contribute to the vibrant tapestry of democracy. As stewards of their civic responsibilities, citizens play a pivotal role in guiding their nation's future.
