Isn't Elon Musk Doing What We've Been Asking For? - People have been complaining for years.

INTRODUCTION:
Greetings. Since Elon Musk took on the task of finding government waste, and DOGE was created, I have received several emails asking me to discuss why so many people complain. After all, people have been complaining about government waste for years. Without pointing fingers, who is complaining? Is it the Republicans, Democrats, or society in general? Violence and destruction of property are never acceptable. Now that his short term in that position is over, is it that important whether or not they found as much as they thought they would in his short period of time, or is it more important that whatever they found in wasteful spending will come to an end? Elon does expect that, in time, DOGE will reach the expected mark. This was a massive undertaking, and it does take time. Think about that for a moment.
First, we need to understand a few key points.
By nature of the human condition, people generally complain. That is perfectly normal. We all do it.
Republicans and Democrats will always complain about what the other does. That is also perfectly normal.
Therefore, I think in this case, it is NOT society in general. I believe this complaining is more politically motivated. It is also said that people who complain are usually the ones causing the problem and are looking to shift the blame elsewhere. Polling on this issue is mixed. However, I am not one to take stock in polls. For example, before the 2024 election, most polls showed Donald Trump and Kamala Harris in a neck-and-neck race. Here are the official GOVERNMENT electoral college results by state. Trump - 312, Harries - 226. That hardly seems to be a neck-and-neck race, and the reality is that the Electoral College votes determine the next President.
The citizens of our great nation have been complaining about excessive government waste and spending for decades, likely for much longer. When we remove the politics and all the fluff, the problem comes down to one thing. How can anyone complain about finding all the government waste and spending when it is being fixed, and they have been complaining about it for years? That's being a bit hypocritical, I think.
SPENDING BILLS:
Congress has always passed spending bills that result in more wasted spending on things unrelated to the bill itself. For example, less than a dime of every dollar in Biden's COVID-19 spending went to fighting COVID-19. (SEE ARTICLE)
As a taxpayer, I am against any bill that includes items NOT directly related to the bill itself. Those should be separate spending bills. However, that probably will never occur because that is how both sides of the aisle get what they want for other interests. It's called having leverage. Well, stop leveraging our money. This is one factor that contributes to government waste and excessive spending. This is just one example, as this is a blog post, not a book. It would take a book to list them all.

ELON MUSK:
No one can reach Elon Musk's plateaus without being an excellent businessperson and an intelligent individual. However, Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind companies such as Tesla and SpaceX, evokes strong opinions, both positive and negative. While many view him as a visionary and a pioneer, others express disdain or skepticism toward him.
Elon Musk's presence on social media, particularly Twitter (now X), has garnered considerable attention. His outspoken and often provocative tweets have incited controversy. Some view his online behavior as erratic or irresponsible. For example, his tweets about taking Tesla private or making sarcastic comments about the pandemic have drawn criticism for potentially being misleading or detrimental to public discourse.
Musk's self-assured and sometimes brash demeanor can rub many people the wrong way. Some perceive him as arrogant, which can lead to a sense of alienation. His reputation for being a demanding boss and setting extremely high expectations at his companies has contributed to an image of an individual prioritizing success over employee well-being. However, as a previous business owner, I also set high expectations for those who work as part of my team. High expectations and meeting those expectations lead to success for everyone.
Musk is often regarded as a pioneer in technology and innovation; however, his views on issues such as artificial intelligence (AI) and space colonization can be polarizing. His warnings about the potential dangers of AI have been met with skepticism from some who view his opinions as exaggerated or fear-mongering. Conversely, his passion for colonizing Mars and advocating for space travel can seem grandiose to those more concerned with terrestrial issues. Some think in the present, while others feel that they are pioneering the future. If we did not have people who believed in pioneering the future, we would not have the advances in medicine, color TV, cell phones, and many other things we enjoy and take for granted today.
The media often plays a significant role in shaping public perceptions. While Musk's innovations and successes are frequently celebrated, sensationalist stories can skew public opinion. Accusations of manipulative behaviors, such as influencing stock prices or promoting conspiracy theories, paint a picture of not only a controversial but also potentially untrustworthy figure. There it is—the media again. If they say it, it must be true, right? WRONG!
Elon Musk is a multifaceted figure who inspires a wide range of reactions. While some admire him for his groundbreaking innovations and entrepreneurial spirit, others are put off by his behavior, business practices, and public image. The diversity of opinions surrounding him reflects broader societal tensions regarding wealth, ethics, and the future of technology. As Musk continues to influence various sectors, he is likely to remain a polarizing figure in both popular culture and the business world. Understanding the reasons behind the negative sentiments towards him requires a delicate exploration of the intersection between innovation, responsibility, and public discourse.
WHAT'S THE TRUTH IS:
The truth is, no single businessperson has achieved success through wasteful and excessive spending. Unfortunately, any public figure who has achieved success will constantly be scrutinized by others. I am sure Elon Musk has broad shoulders and rolls with all the punches. I am also sure that much of this scrutiny is politically motivated and hyped by the media, and people are not seeing the whole picture. People are too quick to believe everything they hear or read. What happened to the good old days of doing some research on your own?
Not all decisions will be met with optimism, and as I stated earlier, there will always be those who complain, take actions or words out of context, and ride that bandwagon. However, the truth is that there is a significant amount of wasteful government spending. Many past Presidents have promised to reduce these occurrences and shrink the size of the federal government. Platforms that caused people to vote for a certain President. Now that this is starting to occur, people are complaining. Well, you cannot have it both ways. Economists argue that our government cannot continue to increase its debt at the current rate, and the public does not want higher taxes.
Whether it is private business, the government, or working people, you can only spend more than you take in for so long. Eventually, that door will swing back and bite you where it hurts. Here are some facts: Credits are highlighted.
DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, has identified and cancelled various contracts and leases, leading to claimed savings of $160 billion. These savings result from terminating contracts, renegotiating them, and canceling leases, as well as eliminating fraud and improper payments. DOGE has also identified and cancelled contracts in DEI training, diversity initiatives, and some forms of foreign aid, which it deemed wasteful.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of DOGE's findings:
Cancelled Contracts:
DOGE has published a list of contracts it claims to have cancelled, with estimated savings reaching $160 billion.
Examples of Cancellations:
This includes contracts for diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as initiatives, training programs, and contracts for research studies.
Fraud and Abuse:
DOGE has also claimed to have identified and deleted payments related to fraud and improper payments, according to a statement on DOGE's X.com.
Controversy and Criticism:
Some of DOGE's claims have been questioned, with reports suggesting inflated savings numbers and a lack of transparency in the calculation of savings.
Focus on Cost Reduction:
DOGE's primary focus has been on reducing federal spending by identifying and eliminating wasteful contracts and programs, according to the BBC.
These only scratch the surface of what could be considered wasteful spending. The take-home message is that everyone knows there has been wasteful government spending for years, and what we as a nation never knew are some of the things we give money to other countries for. As I stated, it would take writing a book to list them all. The one thing everyone agrees on is that government waste and spending need to stop.
Someone has to analyze it, find it, and stop it. President Trump promised transparency. Now that you have it, ask yourself why you are having difficulty handling it. The articles on this topic by reputable sources are abundant on the internet. All you need to do is read them.
GOOD OR BAD:
In the intricate machinery of modern governance, the debate surrounding government spending is a perennial issue that captivates economists, politicians, and the public alike. The central question often posed is whether government spending benefits or harms society. Government spending is the expenses incurred by government entities at all federal, state, and local levels. This spending encompasses various expenditures, such as public services, infrastructure projects, education, healthcare, welfare programs, and national defense. The primary goal of government spending is to facilitate economic stability, growth, and the overall welfare of the citizenry.
There are usually only two perspectives on any topic. Is one good, or is the other bad? Let's examine both.
POSITIVE PERSPECTIVE:
1. Economic Stimulus: Advocates for government spending argue that it can serve as an economic stimulus, especially during recessions. By injecting money into the economy through public projects, welfare programs, and infrastructure development, governments can create jobs and boost consumer spending, helping to revitalize a sluggish economy.
2. Public Welfare and Safety Nets: Government spending is crucial in providing essential services that promote social and public safety welfare. Programs such as Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment benefits serve as safety nets for vulnerable populations, ensuring that basic needs are met even during economic downturns. These expenditures are critical in reducing poverty and inequality within society.
3. Infrastructure Development: Well-planned government spending on infrastructure, such as roads, bridges, public transit, and energy systems, can yield long-term economic benefits. Quality infrastructure enhances productivity by improving transportation efficiency, reducing business costs, and creating a conducive environment for financial and economic activities.
4. Investment in Education and Healthcare: Government investments in education and healthcare are often seen as a means to foster a more qualified workforce and a healthier population. By funding schools and medical services, governments can enable citizens to attain better job opportunities and contribute more effectively to the economy.
NEGATIVE PERSPECTIVE:
1. Fiscal Responsibility and Debt: Critics argue that excessive government spending can lead to inflated national debt, which poses significant risks to economic stability. When governments consistently spend beyond their means, they may be forced to increase taxes or borrow more, potentially crowding out private investment. This can generate a vicious cycle of dependency on debt financing, hampering long-term growth.
2. Inefficiencies and Misallocation of Resources: Government entities often face criticism for inefficiencies, bureaucracy, and waste. Unlike private enterprises, which must maximize profits to survive, government agencies may lack the same incentive to operate efficiently. This can result in the misallocation of public funds, where money is spent on ineffective programs rather than areas with the greatest need.
3. Potential for overreach: Increased government spending can lead to excessive intervention in citizens' lives. Governments taking on too many responsibilities can stifle innovation and reduce the incentives for private sector engagement. Critics of big government argue that excessive spending can erode individual freedoms and stifle the entrepreneurial spirit.
4. Inflationary Pressures: Increases in government spending, particularly when funded by the creation of new money, can lead to inflationary pressures. This can erode purchasing power, disproportionately impacting lower and middle-income households. As prices rise, the benefits of government spending can be offset by the decreased value of money, leading to a potential decline in overall living standards.
THERE IS A MIDDLE GROUND?
Given the complexity of government spending, it is essential to recognize that whether it is good or bad does not have a one-size-fits-all answer. The effectiveness of government spending is often contingent upon context, such as the state of the economy, the specific programs being funded, and the implementation mechanisms.
Targeted Spending: Focusing on targeted spending that addresses specific societal needs, such as healthcare access, education reform, and infrastructure renewal, can yield significant benefits without incurring unsustainable debt or inefficiency.
Evaluating Program Effectiveness: Implementing rigorous evaluation processes to assess the impact of government spending can help ensure that funds are allocated effectively and adjusted based on outcomes. This can mitigate concerns about inefficiency and misallocation.
Bipartisan Collaboration: Promoting a bipartisan approach to government spending can facilitate discussions on fiscal responsibility while prioritizing essential social programs. Collaboration can lead to more sustainable approaches that balance the economy's needs with the welfare of the populace.
IN CLOSING:
The debate surrounding government spending has many dimensions. It encompasses essential economic stimulus, public welfare, efficiencies, and fiscal responsibility considerations. Ultimately, the effectiveness of government spending hinges on how it is implemented, monitored, and adjusted to meet the evolving needs of the society it serves. Thus, rather than categorizing government spending as good or bad, a more productive approach involves critically analyzing its impact and seeking to optimize its use for the benefit of all citizens.
There is always a middle ground. What matters is the man or agency that finds this middle ground and gets the job done. If these names happen to be Musk, or Trump, or DOGE, then so be it. Cutting waste and expenses will never win anyone a popularity prize, because, as I stated earlier, there will always be someone or a group of people who will find something to complain about. That is the way of the world. The key is to keep your eyes on the prize and not just focus on the ride.
For any one single thing in life, there is a larger picture. The larger picture is what needs to be viewed. What will the result be, and what will the benefits be? That is the real question. Doge will go on with or without Elon Musk because it is an essential part of curbing government waste and spending, which is what everyone wants, except those who are causing it.
